L’azoréductase est une enzyme oxydoréductase dont le poids moléculaire est de 60Kd. Il s’agit d’une enzyme cytosolique soluble, dépendante du NADH/NADPH et sensible à l’oxygène, responsable de la dégradation du colorant azoïque Reactive Red BL. Elle a été produite par fermentation submergée (SmF) en utilisant une bactérie isolée localement, Alcaligenes sp. AA09. Dans la présente étude, le colorant azoïque a été presque entièrement minéralisé et le produit minéralisé s’est avéré non toxique pour les plantes.
