Les produits naturels constituent une source de composés bioactifs et présentent un potentiel pour le développement de nouveaux agents thérapeutiques. Averrhoa carambola L., appartenant à la famille des Oxalidacées, est communément appelé fruit étoilé ou kamrakh . Il possède diverses utilisations médicinales, notamment antiprurigineuses, antipyrétiques, anthelminthiques, anti-inflammatoires, anti-ulcéreuses, antimicrobiennes, etc. Au cours des dernières décennies, de nombreux articles ont été publiés dans des revues scientifiques de référence décrivant ses propriétés nutritionnelles et médicinales. La littérature disponible sur cette plante révèle qu’elle contient de nombreux phytoconstituants, notamment des tanins, des terpénoïdes, des saponines, des flavonoïdes, etc., dont certains se sont avérés pharmacologiquement significatifs sur le plan médical. Cependant, aucune étude par HPTLC sur Averrhoa carambola n’a encore été rapportée.
