Este projeto foi realizado para avaliar o nível de degradação do solo da fazenda do Programa de Experiência Industrial para Estudantes (SIWES) da Universidade de Agricultura de Makurdi, que faz parte das fazendas de pesquisa da instituição onde são praticados métodos científicos de agricultura. No entanto, os resultados insatisfatórios e a variabilidade indesejada no rendimento das culturas tornaram necessária a investigação. As propriedades físicas e químicas dos solos foram avaliadas em laboratório e os resultados obtidos foram comparados com os indicadores e critérios padrão para avaliação da degradação do solo, conforme estabelecido pela FAO (1979). Os resultados indicaram diferentes níveis de degradação física, química e biológica do solo. Vários fatores que resultaram na degradação observada foram descritos, discutidos e recomendações foram feitas para gerir os solos degradados e também prevenir uma maior degradação.
