O objectivo geral do estudo realizado na região do Extremo Norte era avaliar os aspectos ambientais e sociais da reabilitação do troço Maroua-Mora da Estrada Nacional nº 1 com vista a alcançar os objectivos de desenvolvimento sustentável. O estudo foi realizado entre Novembro de 2017 e Março de 2018. A metodologia consistiu numa extensa revisão bibliográfica, levantamentos de campo e observações directas. Este método permitiu uma delimitação do âmbito dos aspectos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável na área de estudo, avaliar a conformidade do Plano de Gestão Ambiental e Social (ESMP) com os Objectivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) e destacar medidas para melhorar a integração da abordagem do Desenvolvimento Sustentável no âmbito deste projecto.Dos resultados obtidos, o enquadramento dos pilares do Desenvolvimento Sustentável na componente social mostrou que, na área do estudo, a maioria dos estabelecimentos de saúde são representados por IHC (centros de saúde integrados) (89,39%) que estão subequipados e subestruturados, escolas primárias (80,05%) que estão subequipadas na área da educação, enquanto 97% da população está subrepresentada no sector da saúde.
