In dem sogenannten „Milgram-Experiment' wollte er die Gehorsamsbereitschaft gewöhnlicher Bürger gegenüber Autorität untersuchen. In welchem Ausmaß sind diese bereit, anderen Menschen Gewalt anzutun? Das Ergebnis seiner Untersuchung erschreckte Milgram selbst. Milgrams zahlreichen Vergleiche zur Judenverfolgung in Dritten Reich geben Aufschluss über menschliches Verhalten im kleineren Rahmen. Dieses Buch konzentriert sich auf folgende Fragen: Warum stellen Menschen ihre eigene Moral und ihr Gewissen zurück? Wie kommt es zum scheinbar grenzenlosen Gehorsam? Was genau ist Autorität, und mit welchen Mitteln kann sie Macht über andere Menschen ausüben?
