In dem vorliegenden Buch werden die Auswirkungen verschiedener Schwermetalle, nämlich Zn, Pb und Cd, auf die wichtige Kulturpflanze Indischer Senf (Brassica juncea) vorgestellt, die im Rahmen einer Masterarbeit im Jahr 2013 untersucht wurde. Schwermetalle gehören zu den Schadstoffen, die sich auf die Umwelt und damit auch auf die menschliche Gesundheit auswirken können. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wurde die Wirkung von Metallen auf die Pflanze untersucht. Dabei wurde festgestellt, dass sie das Pflanzenwachstum bis zu einer bestimmten Konzentration einiger Metalle fördern. Es können weitere Studien durchgeführt werden, um die Effizienz dieser Pflanze bei der Phytoremediation zu bewerten, die als kostengünstigere Quelle zur Reinigung der verschmutzten Umwelt hilfreich sein kann. Dieses Buch kann Forschern bei der Durchführung ähnlicher Arbeiten an anderen wichtigen Nutzpflanzen helfen.
