Die vorliegende Studie wurde durchgeführt, um den Einfluss des Salzgehalts des Wassers auf die Eierstockreifung und den Spiegel des reproduktiven Steroidhormons 17-beta-Östradiol durch morphologische Beobachtung, histologische Untersuchung und Enzymimmunoassay (ELISA) bei weiblichen Orangenen Schlammkrabben (Scylla olivacea) in Gefangenschaft zu bestimmen. Tatsächlich ist dies der erste Bericht, der den Einfluss des Salzgehalts des Wassers auf S. olivacea-Brutbestände untersucht. Basierend auf der morphologischen, histologischen und ELISA-Analyse wurde ein Salzgehalt von 20 ppt im Vergleich zu den beiden anderen Salzgehalten (10 ppt und 30 ppt) als optimal ermittelt. Dieser Bericht hat gezeigt, dass der Salzgehalt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Eierstockreifung von Schlammkrabben spielt, jedoch ergab sich für 17-beta-Östradiol kein signifikanter Unterschied. Wir empfehlen 20 ppt als beste Salzgehaltsbehandlung für die Zucht von S. olivacea in Gefangenschaft für die zukünftige Verwendung.
