Gli obiettivi dello studio erano: identificare i fattori sociali e culturali che influenzano l’atteggiamento degli studenti nei confronti dell’inclusione; stabilire l’atteggiamento degli insegnanti nei confronti dell’istruzione inclusiva; esaminare il punto di vista dell’amministrazione scolastica sull’atteggiamento degli studenti nei confronti dell’inclusione; esaminare il ruolo svolto dal Ministero dell’Istruzione nell’affrontare la questione dell’atteggiamento degli studenti con disabilità visiva e di quelli senza nei confronti dell’istruzione inclusiva. Lo studio è stato condotto in due scuole primarie integrate di Nairobi con una popolazione target di 886 persone, tra cui funzionari del Ministero dell’Istruzione (MoE), presidi, insegnanti di classe e studenti. La procedura di campionamento utilizzata è stata il campionamento mirato per tutti i partecipanti. La dimensione del campione era composta da due funzionari del MoE, due presidi, sette insegnanti di classe, 12 studenti con disabilità visiva e 40 studenti vedenti. Nello studio sono stati utilizzati due strumenti: questionari e guida per le interviste. I risultati hanno indicato che i presidi e i funzionari del MoE considerano l’istruzione inclusiva una buona idea. Tuttavia, la maggior parte dei genitori non è interessata all’integrazione e vi partecipa in misura marginale.
