O arroz é produzido numa ampla variedade de locais e sob diversas condições climáticas, desde as áreas mais húmidas do mundo até aos desertos mais secos. Acredita-se que seja originário do Sudeste Asiático, particularmente da Índia e da Indochina, onde foi registada a maior diversidade de variedades cultivadas. A Índia ocupa o primeiro lugar em área de cultivo de arroz e o segundo em produção, atrás apenas da China. A cultura é cultivada principalmente na estação kharif e no verão nos distritos de Navsari, Valsad, Surat, Dangs e Kheda, no sul de Gujarat, onde existem instalações de irrigação por canais perenes. As variedades populares cultivadas no sul de Gujarat são Dandi, Gurjari, Jaya, IR-28, etc. A variedade de arroz NAUR-1 tem maior potencial de rendimento em comparação com outras variedades e é tolerante à salinidade. A resposta desta cultura de arroz NAUR-1 às substâncias de crescimento foi positiva e significativa no que diz respeito aos atributos de crescimento e rendimento. Com base nos resultados experimentais, pode-se concluir que a combinação do tratamento de sementes e pulverização de mudas com tioureia a 1000 mg/l melhorou significativamente vários parâmetros de crescimento e rendimento da variedade de arroz NAUR-1 durante a estação do verão.
