La somministrazione efficiente di farmaci nella cavità vaginale è spesso una sfida a causa delle sue peculiari variazioni fisiologiche, tra cui le grandi differenze di pH. Tenendo conto di questa caratteristica del sito target, il presente lavoro è stato finalizzato allo sviluppo di strategie di formulazione in grado di superare questo problema e di veicolare con successo molecole come la Ciclopirox olamina attraverso gli SLN. Le SLN ottimizzate sono state selezionate per un ulteriore sviluppo. Quando è stato valutato in vivo, non ha mostrato alcun potenziale irritativo, nonostante un’apprezzabile bioadesione. È stata inoltre osservata una notevole riduzione delle CFU quando è stato valutato il modello di infezione nel ratto. Lo studio proposto definisce quindi le sfide per lo sviluppo di un sistema di formulazione adatto a superare le barriere di somministrazione del sito vaginale.
