Lo scopo di questo studio è stato quello di valutare l’impatto dei forum di discussione strutturati sull’apprendimento degli studenti nei corsi di informatica svolti interamente online. In particolare, lo studio ha proposto una struttura per i forum di discussione e ne ha analizzato l’impatto sull’acquisizione dei tre tipi di conoscenza: know-what, know-why e know-why. Il know-what si riferisce alla conoscenza dei fatti, il know-how alla capacità di fare qualcosa e il know-why alla conoscenza della natura causale, nella mente umana e nella società. La seconda domanda di ricerca ha esaminato l’impatto dei forum di discussione strutturati sul miglioramento delle competenze collaborative degli studenti. Inoltre, lo studio ha indagato se esiste una relazione tra la partecipazione attiva degli studenti e il livello di conoscenza che hanno acquisito dal forum di discussione.
