Questo studio indaga fino a che punto l’autonomia dello studente può essere promossa in una situazione di apprendimento misto che implica l’integrazione di un sistema di gestione del corso in una tradizionale lezione di inglese faccia a faccia. Lo scopo è identificare se ci sono prove che un tale intervento apporti cambiamenti nella percezione e nella pratica degli studenti in relazione al loro apprendimento autonomo. La ricerca si avvale di metodi sia qualitativi che quantitativi e adotta un approccio di studio di casi insieme a elementi di un disegno quasi sperimentale. I dati provenienti da quattro strumenti di ricerca: vale a dire, questionario, riviste di apprendimento degli studenti, interviste e osservazione in classe sono triangolati e amalgamati per aumentare la validità e l’affidabilità dei risultati che suggeriscono che il sistema di gestione dei corsi gioca un ruolo di primo piano nella creazione e nello sviluppo di quattro aspetti dell’autonomia del discente. Si tratta di percezione autonoma, comportamento autonomo, strategia autonoma e interdipendenza.
