Lo studio esplora l’applicazione dei programmi educativi individualizzati (IEP) in Kenya per affrontare il basso rendimento scolastico tra gli studenti di età compresa tra i 6 e gli 8 anni nelle classi 1, 2 e 3. Sottolinea l’adattamento e la differenziazione dei programmi di studio per soddisfare le diverse esigenze, guidati dalla teoria della motivazione di Maslow. Condotto nella sottocontea di Loitokitok, contea di Kajiado, l’indagine esplorativa ha coinvolto 10 scuole, 10 presidi, 33 insegnanti, 300 studenti con scarso rendimento e i loro genitori, utilizzando un campionamento mirato. La raccolta dei dati ha utilizzato questionari e strumenti pro-forma, con analisi attraverso statistiche descrittive e organizzazione tematica. I risultati hanno rivelato una scarsa consapevolezza dei PEI: il 54,5% dei dirigenti scolastici, il 71,9% degli insegnanti e l’80,4% dei genitori non erano informati e il 96,95% degli insegnanti non ha attuato i PEI. Le raccomandazioni includono la formazione degli insegnanti in servizio sulla diversità, l’istituzione di una formazione professionale sostenuta dal governo e l’obbligo dei PEI attraverso una politica di educazione per le esigenze speciali (SNE) per migliorare i risultati accademici.
