A Sterculia urens é uma árvore de folha caduca de tamanho moderado. O estudo centra-se no papel das enzimas antioxidantes durante as diferentes fases da organogénese e na aclimatização ex vitro das plantas regeneradas. Foram estudados os antioxidantes enzimáticos como a superóxido dismutase (SOD), a catalase (CAT), a peroxidase (POD) e a polifenol oxidase (PPO), as proteínas totais e os fenóis. O perfil proteico foi estudado utilizando SDS-PAGE e as isoenzimas para CAT e POD foram estudadas utilizando PAGE nativo. Foram observadas seis formas de isoenzimas de POD e duas de CAT. A concentração crescente de proteínas totais e os níveis elevados de enzimas antioxidantes foram observados em calos regenerados em diferentes estádios com inícios de rebentos do que em calos não regenerados. O aumento dos níveis de proteínas e peroxidase também foi observado durante a aclimatação de plantas regeneradas in vitro.
