Angelica, Or Quixote In Petticoats: A Comedy, In Two Acts is a play written by Charlotte Lennox and initially published in 1758. The story follows the protagonist, Angelica, a young woman who is determined to live her life according to the principles of chivalry and honor, much like Don Quixote. She sets out on a mission to defend the honor of her family and friends, and in doing so, finds herself in a series of comical situations. Along the way, she encounters a cast of characters, including her love interest, Colonel Britton, and her rival, Lady Brumpton. The play is a commentary on the social norms and expectations of women in the 18th century, and it challenges these conventions by presenting a strong, independent female character who is not afraid to go against the status quo. Overall, Angelica, Or Quixote In Petticoats is a witty and entertaining play that offers a unique perspective on gender roles and societal expectations in the 18th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
