An Edinburgh Eleven

'An Edinburgh Eleven' is a collection of sharp, insightful, and often humorous biographical sketches by J. M. Barrie, the celebrated author of 'Peter Pan'. Drawing from his own experiences at the University of Edinburgh, Barrie profiles eleven influential men who defined the academic and cultural life of Scotland during the late nineteenth century. The subjects of these portraits include esteemed figures such as Lord Rosebery, David Masson, John Stuart Blackie, and his contemporary, Robert Louis Stevenson.Through these essays, Barrie provides a vivid look into the corridors of higher learning and the formidable personalities that shaped the Victorian intellectual landscape. His writing blends personal reminiscence with journalistic observation, offering a unique perspective on the character and legacy of these great thinkers. More than just a series of biographies, the work serves as an affectionate tribute to the city of Edinburgh and the lasting impact of its educational traditions. For readers interested in Scottish history, literary biography, and the early non-fiction work of one of the world’s most famous storytellers, 'An Edinburgh Eleven' remains an engaging and historically significant read. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
