Cet ouvrage vise à évaluer les performances thermiques et la faisabilité de l’intégration d’un échangeur de chaleur terre-air (EAHE) au système de refroidissement de l’air par compression de vapeur du bâtiment dans le climat chaud de la région du Golfe arabe ou de tout autre climat similaire. Dans le système proposé, l’air ambiant est forcé par un ventilateur axial à travers un EAHE enterré à une certaine profondeur sous la surface du sol. L’EAHE utilise la basse température du sous-sol et les propriétés thermiques du sol pour réduire la température de l’air de refroidissement. L’air sortant de l’EAHE est utilisé pour refroidir le serpentin du condenseur d’un système de climatisation basé sur un cycle de compression de vapeur (VCC) afin d’améliorer son coefficient de performance (COP). L’amélioration potentielle du COP a été étudiée pour deux réfrigérants différents (R-22 et R410a). Un modèle mathématique a été développé pour estimer la température du sol souterrain à différentes profondeurs et la température correspondante de l’air de sortie de l’EAHE a été calculée.
