Algoritmos Genéticos são uma classe de métodos estocásticos de busca que tentam encontrar boas soluções para problemas de otimização difíceis, imitando a evolução natural. Ao longo das últimas três décadas, os algoritmos genéticos provaram ser bem sucedidos na resolução de problemas multitudinários de domínios muito diversos incluindo optimização, programação automática, design de circuitos electrónicos, telecomunicações, redes, finanças, economia, análise de imagem, processamento de sinais, música e arte. Com estas aplicações de algoritmos genéticos é possível utilizar algoritmos genéticos em Engenharia de Software para automatizar o processo de testes.
