Ze względu na ograniczoną literaturę niewiele wiadomo na temat tego, czy teorie psychoanalityczne można powiązać z afrykańskimi kulturowymi perspektywami macierzyństwa i przywiązania. Niniejsze badanie miało na celu zrozumienie kulturowej wiedzy afrykańskich babć na temat macierzyństwa i przywiązania z perspektywy psychoanalitycznej teorii przywiązania. Po drugie, badanie miało na celu opisanie punktów zbieżności i rozbieżności między psychoanalitycznymi koncepcjami przywiązania a kulturową wiedzą afrykańskich babć na temat macierzyństwa. Z perspektywy psychoanalitycznej teorii przywiązania badanie pozwoliło wykazać zbieżności i rozbieżności między psychoanalitycznymi koncepcjami macierzyństwa a afrykańskim kulturowym rozumieniem macierzyństwa, ilustrując w ten sposób, że istnieje pole do dialogu między nimi.
