Book 2 opens with an editorial on social work and social development in Zimbabwe, a theme that runs through the volume. The articles cover child protection, juvenile justice, foster and kinship care, refugees, military social work, disability, substance abuse, and the experiences of women and older people. Social development contributions look at social enterprise in service delivery, women's role in development, environmental crisis and sustainable development, social sustainability policies for poverty reduction, and humanitarian work in developing regions. Several articles were early African work on environmental social work and climate change. Others look at indigenous social security and practices such as Zunde raMambo as ways of caring for vulnerable children. The book also contains a tribute to Professor Edwell Kaseke, whose work shaped social development thinking in Africa. Contributors from Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ghana, Botswana, Nigeria and South Africa write about practice, education and policy. The book will interest anyone teaching, studying or practising social work and social development in Africa.
