Active Service: Or Work Among Our Soldiers is a book written by Jane Ellice Hopkins in 1872. The book describes the author’s experiences working with soldiers during the Franco-Prussian War. Hopkins was a member of the British Ladies’ Association for the Care of Friendless Girls, and she traveled to France to provide aid and support to soldiers on the front lines. The book includes descriptions of the conditions faced by soldiers, as well as the challenges and rewards of providing support to them. Hopkins also discusses the importance of religion and faith in her work, and the impact it had on the soldiers she worked with. Overall, Active Service provides a firsthand account of the experiences of soldiers during war, and the role that women played in providing support and care to them. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
