Les polysaccharides sulfatés extraits d’algues possèdent d’importantes propriétés pharmacologiques. L’objectif de cette étude était donc de caractériser le polysaccharide sulfaté (PLS) de l’algue Hypnea musciformis et d’évaluer son effet protecteur sur la colite induite par l’acide trinitrobenzène sulfonique chez le rat. Le polysaccharide sulfaté a une masse moléculaire élevée (1,24 x 105 g.mol-1). Les rats ont reçu du PLS par voie orale (10, 30 et 60 mg/kg, p.o.). Les rats ont été tués le troisième jour, la partie du côlon distal (5 cm) a été excisée et les scores macroscopiques ainsi que le poids humide ont été évalués. Des échantillons de l’intestin ont ensuite été utilisés pour l’évaluation histologique et la quantification du glutathion, de l’acide malonyldéhyde, de la myéloperoxydase, des nitrates/nitrites et des cytokines. Nos résultats montrent que le PLS réduit la colite et tous les paramètres biochimiques analysés. Nous concluons donc que le PLS extrait de l’algue H. musciformis réduit la colite dans le modèle animal et peut avoir une application prometteuse importante dans les maladies inflammatoires de l’intestin.
