Across The Salt Seas: A Romance Of The War Of Succession is a historical novel written by John Bloundelle-Burton and first published in 1897. Set in the 18th century during the War of Succession, the novel follows the adventures of the protagonist, Captain John Jewell, as he sails across the seas in search of love and fortune. The story begins with Captain Jewell being sent on a mission to the West Indies by the British government. Along the way, he meets and falls in love with the beautiful and fiery Spanish noblewoman, Donna Dolores de Mendoza. However, their love is threatened by the political tensions between their respective countries, as well as the machinations of a jealous rival for Dolores’ affections. As Captain Jewell navigates the treacherous waters of love and war, he must also contend with pirates, privateers, and other dangers of the high seas. The novel is filled with swashbuckling action, political intrigue, and vivid descriptions of life at sea. Bloundelle-Burton’s prose is rich and evocative, capturing the spirit of the age and bringing to life the characters and settings of the novel.
