作者出生在上海，没有見過父親，由母亲独自抚养成人。作者于八十年代赴美留学，之前曾在上海一家电器公所属分厂技术股任职。2003年，作者母亲赴美治疗乳腺癌。2005年作者也被诊断出患有乳腺癌。但仍然工作。2007年，為了年迈的母亲能安度晚年，作者结束了婚姻。携母亲及女儿净身出户，搬迁到其他城市。此后十多年祖孙三代相依为命。作者母亲云峰曾用笔名（余音）投稿上海市总工会'抗战胜利七十周年'征文，以她亲身经历笔伐日本侵略者的罪行和战争给她的一生造成的苦难和伤痛，获得二等奖。作者将母亲的不幸不易和无奈无助、母亲挑战人生磨难的坚韌不屈的意志和信念以小说的形式写出来並出版，以告慰母亲在天之灵。小说的内容基本依据历史事实，有血有肉，并非凭空杜撰。
