A Virginia Cavalier is a novel written by Molly Elliot Seawell and published in 1897. The story is set during the American Civil War and follows the life of a young Confederate soldier named Stuart Sterling. The novel is divided into three parts, with each part covering a different period in Stuart’s life. In the first part, Stuart is a young man who joins the Confederate Army and becomes a cavalry officer. He is sent to fight in various battles and experiences the horrors of war. He also falls in love with a young woman named Lucy, but their relationship is complicated by the war.In the second part, Stuart is captured by Union forces and sent to a prison camp. He endures harsh conditions and makes friends with other prisoners. He also meets a Union nurse named Alice, with whom he develops a close relationship. In the third part, Stuart is released from the prison camp and returns to Virginia. He is reunited with Lucy, but their relationship is strained by the events of the war. He also continues to correspond with Alice, who is now working as a nurse in Washington, D.C.A Virginia Cavalier is a poignant and realistic portrayal of the Civil War era, and Seawell’s vivid descriptions of battle scenes and life in prison camps are particularly powerful. The novel also explores themes of love, loyalty, and the impact of war on individuals and society. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
