As atitudes das crianças em casa e na escola são muitas vezes contrárias aos valores da eco-cidadania, apesar da sensibilização e da formação que receberam neste domínio. Este paradoxo levou-nos a realizar esta investigação, cuja principal questão de fundo é analisar a influência dos factores familiares e escolares na cultura da ética eco-cidadã das crianças. A análise dos dados quantitativos e qualitativos dos nossos inquéritos revelou que a situação socioeconómica e o nível de escolaridade dos pais, bem como os factores institucionais e pedagógicos, têm efeitos negativos ou positivos na cultura da ética eco-cidadã dos alunos das escolas primárias do Burkina Faso. Este estudo abre caminho para a procura de soluções que ajudem a estabelecer a ética do eco-cidadão nos hábitos comportamentais das crianças. Para reduzir os efeitos negativos, a tónica deve ser colocada na sensibilização em casa e na formação dos professores.
