Essas experiências traumáticas assombram-nas durante as brincadeiras e a aprendizagem na escola. A orientação e o aconselhamento são, portanto, essenciais para ajudar essas vítimas a usar os seus recursos internos para lidar com os múltiplos desafios e alcançar a congruência. O sistema escolar é geralmente encarregado de fornecer serviços de orientação e aconselhamento às crianças. O Zimbábue adotou a orientação e o aconselhamento no currículo do ensino básico como uma política obrigatória, num esforço para transformar a vida de uma população especial. No entanto, a eficácia dos programas de orientação e aconselhamento nas escolas primárias do Zimbábue é prejudicada por implementadores que os consideram uma matéria periférica, pela carga de trabalho dos conselheiros, pelos recursos limitados e pela complexidade do aconselhamento infantil.
