This book traces the rational justifications for the migration crisis to inhumane and cruel policies on a global scale and the stranglehold on the economies of poor countries, on the one hand, and, on the other, the inability of countries in the Global South to muster the philosophical courage to realize their own potential; it proposes an ethical-therapeutic approach as a solution. For the author, immigration-as a genuine transformation in the development of humanity and society-also reveals a tragedy of possession that alters the ontological weight of human existence. For immigrants are seeking possessions in order to truly be; they are even seeking an immanent justification for their existence. This ethical reflection is essential in our postmodern era, which is in search of identity and hope. It highlights the need to reflect on humanity’s project of hope and calls for a genuine reevaluation of social policies in contemporary Africa. This is the validity of the theology of hope, whose essential, crucial, and even unconditional nature the author emphasizes in these eschatological and thanatological times.
