Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2004 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europa - and. Länder - Mittelalter, Frühe Neuzeit, Note: 1, Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, Veranstaltung: Medien im Geschichtsunterricht, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: „Von kaum einem anderen Autor unserer Tage sind die Erlebniswelt und Geisteshandlung des Mittelalters erfolgreicher an ein breites Publikum vermittelt worden als von dem Bologneser Sprachwissenschaftler Umberto Eco.' „Der Name der Rose' gehört unbestreitbar zu den wohl größten Erfolgen in der Darstellung einer Rahmenhandlung im Mittelalter als historische Epoche. Die Auflagezahlen des 1980 erstmals erschienenen Buches belegen dieses eindrucksvoll: 5-6 Millionen Exemplare wurden weltweit bis 1986 abgesetzt und „der Name der Rose' in 25 Sprachen übersetzt. Der Film, dem sich diese Hausarbeit schwerpunktmäßig widmen soll, wurde mit einem Etat von 48 Millionen DM 1986 fertig gestellt. Er glänzte durch Starbesetzung: Jean Jaques Annaud als Regisseur, Bernd Eichinger als Produzent und in den schauspielerischen Rollen Sean Connery, Christian Slater und F. Murray Abraham. Die Kosten spielte er innerhalb von 3 Wochen wieder ein: 4 Millionen Kinozuschauer waren es bis dahin allein in Deutschland. In meiner Hausarbeit will ich keine weitere Inhaltsanalyse zu „der Name der Rose' verfassen (denn davon gibt es in der umfassenden Sekundärliteratur bereits Unmengen) und auch keinen weiteren Buch- Film- Vergleich vornehmen (denn die Erkenntnis ist einfach: der Film stellt eine Vereinfachung aufgrund eines anderen Zielpublikums dar) sondern mich der konkreten Frage widmen inwiefern sich die Verfilmung des Werkes für den Geschichtsunterricht verwenden lässt. Dazu werde ich kurz den Inhalt des Filmes darstellen, die Handlung in ihren historischen Kontext einordnen, die Authentizität von Ecos Handlung untersuchen und zum Abschluss der Ausgangsfrage nachgehen: mit welchen (Lern-) Zielen lässt sich der Film im Geschichtsunterricht einsetzen?
