Die brasilianische Agrarindustrie spielt eine wichtige Rolle für die Entwicklung des Landes, da sie Arbeitsplätze, Einkommen und Devisen schafft. Und innerhalb der Agrarindustrie war und ist Zuckerrohr ein vielversprechendes Produkt für diese Entwicklung. Vor diesem Hintergrund besteht das allgemeine Ziel dieser Studie darin, den Einfluss der Zuckerrohr-Agrarindustrie auf die sozioökonomische Entwicklung der Gemeinde Caarapó zu analysieren. Zu diesem Zweck wurde eine quantitative Untersuchung mit einem deskriptiven und erklärenden Ansatz durchgeführt. Sie konzentrierte sich auf die Zuckerrohrproduktion im Zeitraum zwischen 2000 und 2012, wobei Sekundärdaten verwendet wurden, die unter anderem vom Brasilianischen Institut für Geografie und Statistik (IBGE) und dem Industrieverband des Bundesstaates Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN) stammen. Die Zuckerrohr-Agrarindustrie hat zu einem Bevölkerungswachstum, einem Anstieg der Zahl der Arbeitsplätze und des Einkommens und damit zu persönlichen Verbesserungen geführt. Es kann jedoch nicht gesagt werden, dass diese Verbesserungen ausschließlich auf dieses Vorhaben zurückzuführen sind.
