Yauyos y Huarochirí son dos provincias del Departamento de Lima que la Santa Sede desprendió en 1957 de la archidiócesis de la capital peruana para erigirlas en prelatura nullíus. A más de 4000 metros de altitud, con cimas que alcanzan los 6000, era un extenso territorio que había que rescatar de un olvido de siglos, hasta convertirlo en una diócesis como las demás. Y el papa encomendó esta tarea al Opus Dei.Un puñado de sacerdotes, con su obispo al frente (Ignacio Orbegozo), desarrollaron allí su misión de servicio, a lomos de bestias y en la dureza de un paraje adverso.
