Badanie miało na celu zbadanie wyzwań technologicznych, przed którymi stoją niektóre kobiety wiejskie w gminach Intsika-Yethu i Emalahleni, należących do gminy Chris Hani District Municipality w prowincji Eastern Cape w Republice Południowej Afryki. Dostępna literatura wskazuje, że niektóre kobiety wiejskie w Republice Południowej Afryki i innych rozwijających się częściach świata stoją przed wyzwaniami technologicznymi. Dane zebrano poprzez pogłębione wywiady i wywiady grupowe. Dane zostały przedstawione, przeanalizowane i omówione zgodnie z tematami wywodzącymi się z podpytań badawczych. Z badania wynika, że chociaż większość kobiet w obu gminach była świadoma istnienia technologii informacyjno-komunikacyjnych (ICT), borykały się one z problemami dostępności, przystępności cenowej, dostępności, umiejętności ICT oraz braku dostępu do energii elektrycznej w większości obszarów gmin.
