Budowa szkół podstawowych była możliwa dzięki interwencjom społeczności lokalnych. Interwencje społecznościowe obejmują umowy zawierane przez społeczność, dotacje społecznościowe i szkolenia nauczycieli. Dzięki takiemu podejściu zbudowano 400 szkół z pomocą mieszkańców wsi w głębi Laosu. Społeczności nie tylko były w stanie zbudować trwałe struktury szkolne, ale także doprowadziły do pozytywnych i lepszych wyników edukacyjnych. Wyniki edukacyjne były widoczne w zwiększonej liczbie zapisów, zwiększonych wskaźnikach promocji, zmniejszonych wskaźnikach powtarzania klasy, zwiększonym parytecie płci i wyższych wskaźnikach ukończenia szkoły. CBI doprowadziło również do znaczących pozytywnych zmian w kapitale społecznym, rozwoju społeczności, partycypacji płci, budowaniu zdolności w zarządzaniu szkołą, lepszym procesie nauczania i uczenia się oraz niższych kosztach kontraktowania. Interwencja była nie tylko opłacalna, ale także zinstytucjonalizowana dzięki zbiorowej własności. Połączenie tych interwencji sprawia, że CBI jest odpowiednim podejściem do budowania społeczności, w których edukacja ma kluczowe znaczenie.
