After training in home economics, working as a nursery nurse, and studying pedagogy in Lüneburg, Irene Fiedler (*1942) was, together with her husband, a missionary in the Kanisa la Biblia in southern Tanzania. After returning to Germany in 1976, she trained as an Individual Psychology Counsellor and as a Bioenergetic Analyst. She received her Dr paed (Doctor of Education) from the University of Dortmund in 1984. Since1980 she has worked in her own practice. She taught for ten years in the association 'Counselling, Therapy and Pastoral Care' and for four years in the training of IP counsellors at the Alfred Adler Institute in Düsseldorf. Mother of three children, two of whom were born in Tanzania. She published Der Wandel der Mädchenerziehung in Tanzania (1983) and was the editor of the Concordance of the Old Testament (Itifaki ya Biblia) in Swahili (Dodoma/Nairobi, 1990).When the author was still a student at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda (1968/69), she realized how important women are in culture and in church. She then worked for seven years in the Kanisa la Biblia in southern Tanzania. In Matemanga she began to establish the church’s Regional Women’s Work, which she later continued from Songea and Mbinga. The book looks back on her life, work and thought during these years, based on her diaries and correspondence.
