Nationale Bewertungen zum Lehren und Lernen von Mathematik haben gezeigt, dass brasilianische Schüler in diesem Fach im Allgemeinen schlechte Leistungen erbringen. Einer der Gründe, die zur Rechtfertigung dieser Leistungen angeführt werden, ist die Abstraktheit der Art und Weise, wie dieses Wissen im Unterricht vermittelt wird, da diese Bewertungen im Allgemeinen darauf hindeuten, dass der Unterricht in diesem Fach von theoretischem Wissen geprägt ist, das keinen Bezug zum Alltag der Schüler hat. Mit dem Ziel, dieses Szenario umzukehren, wird in dieser Arbeit eine Technik für den Mathematikunterricht vorgestellt, bei der die Ethnomathematik aus einer Umweltperspektive eingesetzt wird, die in der Lage ist, gültiges Wissen für die Bildung von kritischen, partizipativen Individuen zu fördern, die für die Umwelt mitverantwortlich sind. In diesem Buch stellen wir sowohl die theoretischen Annahmen vor, die dieser Technik zugrunde liegen, als auch ein Beispiel für ihre Anwendung im Fach Mathematik II des integrierten Baukurses am Bundesinstitut von Sergipe.
