Das Buch beschreibt einen neuen therapeutischen Zugang über spontan gemalte Bilder von Patienten in verschiedenen Phasen ihres Gesundungsprozesses. Im Zentrum steht die Frage, wie Lösungen in der Therapie und im Leben zustande kommen und welche Stadien Patienten bis dorthin durchlaufen. Der Therapeut fragt jetzt nicht mehr - wie üblich - danach, „Wer' ein Patient ist, sondern „Wo' dieser sich in der universellen Lösungsgeschichte gerade befindet und kann daraus erschließen, was dieser jetzt braucht. Auf der Suche nach einer allgemeinen Struktur von Lösungen entdeckte der Autor zahlreiche Analogien zwischen Patienten-Geschichten und der Konstruktion von Geschichten (und Lösungen) in der Literatur und im Film. Es wird das Konzept einer universellen Lösungsgeschichte entworfen, deren einzelne Stationen über die im Therapieprozess entstandenen Bilder unmittelbar anschaulich gemacht werden können.
