Walk the Ancient Path Volume 1

Jeremiah 6:16 says, 'Thus says the LORD: 'Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ’We will not walk in it. 17 Also, I set watchmen over you, saying, ’Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ’We will not listen.’ God is calling His sons and daughters to again walk the ancient path. The ancient paths are God’s original ways. The 'ancient paths' are not about tradition for tradition’s sake; they refer to God’s established truth, His covenant ways and the righteous path revealed from the beginning. It is the path beyond religion. It is a path forged in eternity. It is the path that has existed before the days of Noah, Abraham or Moses. The path calls for obedience to God’s Word, reverence and fear of the Lord, as well as justice, righteousness, and holiness. In essence, it is returning to how God designed life to be lived before corruption, compromise, and rebellion set in. When we look at the ancient path of Jeremiah 6:16, God does not say the path is gone. He does not tell us to invent a new way or search the ends of the earth for a lost route. The path exists. It is ancient, tested, and good. But here’s the challenge: though the path exists, we often cannot see it clearly. Why? It has become overgrown, obscured, and hidden from sight. Spiritual blindness, apathy, rebellion, and the weight of man-made religion have allowed bushes and undergrowth to cover it. We need to uncover God’s way of holiness, intimacy, and truth and then walk in it. For then we walk in God’s power, presence and glory.
