Dhaka, a capital do Bangladesh, é uma das cidades com mais rápido crescimento populacional do mundo. Todos os anos, um grande número de trabalhadores migrantes muda-se das zonas rurais para a cidade de Daca numa base contínua e entra no sector informal urbano, incluindo o sector dos puxadores de riquexó. Em 2017, realizámos um inquérito por questionário estruturado a cerca de 120 puxadores de riquexó selecionados aleatoriamente em cinco locais da cidade de Daca para examinar as dificuldades de subsistência e a vulnerabilidade dos puxadores de riquexó da cidade de Daca. A maioria dos inquiridos estava disposta a educar os seus filhos e não queria incluí-los neste sector. Havia potencial para o empreendedorismo se as agências governamentais e as agências não governamentais lhes proporcionassem formação e financiamento. Os inquiridos responderam que estavam dispostos a melhorar as condições de vida das suas famílias e a melhorar as perspectivas de futuro dos seus filhos ou futuros filhos, o que é realmente difícil devido aos múltiplos factores de vulnerabilidade que enfrentam.
