A 'questão cipriota' tem as suas raízes no próprio momento da criação de Chipre como Estado independente e continua por resolver até à data, sendo um dos conflitos mais intratáveis do mundo. As narrativas do Estado e da sociedade civil sobre a resolução do conflito cipriota podem ser bastante diferentes. Anos de divisão produziram imagens conflituosas e percepções negativas do 'Outro'. Através do estudo de fontes académicas, relatórios da ONU e entrevistas pessoais, o investigador tenta identificar essas contra-narrativas. O seu mecanismo de auto-alimentação e o seu impacto nas perspectivas de paz em Chipre são apresentados e a sua lógica analisada. No cerne das narrativas do RdC estão as caraterísticas de inimizade, vitimização, culpabilização, desconfiança e ódio. As contra-narrativas da sociedade civil centram-se na cooperação, na comunicação, na simpatia, na confiança e no desejo de um modelo de educação inclusivo. O investigador faz duas recomendações. Em primeiro lugar, a presença de representantes da sociedade civil durante a nova ronda de 'conversações de paz' dos líderes pode fazer a diferença e ajudar a passar de uma abordagem contraditória para uma abordagem mais reflexiva. Em segundo lugar, é necessário um reconhecimento formal ou a adoção do papel da sociedade civil pelo RdC.
