La métastase est un processus en plusieurs étapes qui implique une cascade d’événements tels que le détachement du site primaire, l’invasion, l’intravasation, le transport et la circulation, l’extravasation et enfin la dégradation et la formation osseuses. Les tumeurs métastatiques de la cavité buccale sont rares, représentant environ 1 % des tumeurs malignes buccales. Dans 25 % des cas, les métastases buccales constituent le premier signe de propagation métastatique et dans 23 % des cas, elles peuvent être le premier signe de dissémination de la tumeur maligne à partir de son site primaire. Elles touchent beaucoup plus fréquemment les mâchoires que les tissus mous. Dans cette revue, nous avons mis en évidence les différents facteurs prédisposants et proposé une voie hypothétique de métastase pour les tumeurs malignes les plus courantes touchant différentes parties du corps, y compris la cavité buccale.
