La technique de culture de tissus végétaux est aujourd’hui largement utilisée pour produire du matériel végétal de qualité exempt de maladies pour la banane. De nombreuses unités commerciales de culture de tissus produisent des millions de plants de bananiers destinés à la culture. Cependant, le virus du bunchy top de la banane est parfois asymptomatique et la culture à partir de plants infectés entraîne la destruction totale de la récolte. Par conséquent, les travaux actuels constituent un effort supplémentaire pour détecter également le virus asymptomatique, à l’aide de techniques moléculaires.
