Die Übertragung digitaler Informationen erfordert ein hohes Maß an Geheimhaltung, insbesondere bei digitalen Bildern. Die Verwendung herkömmlicher Verschlüsselungsalgorithmen wie Rivest-Shamir-Adleman, Advanced Encryption Standard und Data Encryption Standard hat sich nicht als ausreichend wirksam erwiesen, um alle Arten von digitalen Bildern zu schützen. Aus diesem Grund ist die Bildverschlüsselung in den letzten Jahren zu einer dringenden Herausforderung und zu einem Thema geworden, mit dem sich viele Forscher beschäftigen. Es wurden mehrere Bildverschlüsselungsschemata unter Verwendung verschiedener Techniken wie Quantentheorie, DNA-Codierung und Chaostheorie entwickelt. Die meisten der vorgeschlagenen Schemata weisen jedoch mehrere Sicherheitsmängel auf. Bei der chaotischen Karten-basierten Bildverschlüsselung hängt die Sicherheit des Verschlüsselungsalgorithmus von den Eigenschaften der chaotischen Karten und der Struktur des Algorithmus ab, sodass eine bessere Verteilung der chaotischen Karten erforderlich ist. Klassische chaotische Systeme wie logistische und quadratische Karten weisen jedoch zahlreiche Schwächen auf.
