A liderança transformacional tem demonstrado estar positivamente correlacionada com a satisfação no trabalho, o desempenho profissional, o compromisso organizacional e a capacidade de sobrevivência. Poucas pesquisas examinaram as questões relacionadas à implementação dos conceitos de liderança transformacional num laboratório científico. O objetivo deste estudo de caso exploratório e qualitativo foi examinar (a) o estilo de liderança atual do presidente de um laboratório científico da perspectiva dos cientistas, analistas e técnicos e o seu estilo de liderança preferido; (b) o estilo de liderança auto-percebido pelo presidente e a preferência percebida pelo estilo dos subordinados; e (c) as perceções dos funcionários sobre as vantagens e os desafios da aplicação e implementação de um estilo de liderança transformacional. Os líderes em laboratórios científicos que aplicam estas conclusões e implementam uma liderança mais eficaz podem impactar a mudança social por meio do aumento da satisfação e do desempenho dos subordinados, aumentando assim a capacidade de sobrevivência da organização e melhorando o status quo.
