Le concept d’environnement implique des aspects sociaux, politiques et économiques ainsi que des éléments naturels. Ainsi, la reconnaissance de la complexité des questions environnementales souligne l’importance de comprendre la dynamique des relations qui guident les individus dans leurs interactions avec l’environnement. En ce sens, des études ont démontré la relation entre les valeurs, les croyances et le comportement. La théorie des valeurs de Schwartz (1992) identifie la complexité de la relation entre les valeurs et le comportement, organisant le domaine de la motivation humaine en dix types de motivation. Les études de Pato (2004) sur les croyances environnementales sont en mesure d’indiquer comment les individus se rapportent à l’environnement, ainsi que leur prédisposition à agir ou à ne pas agir de manière écologique, permettant ainsi de comprendre le comportement écologique et ses formes de manifestation. L’objectif de cette étude était d’analyser la perception des croyances environnementales et le comportement écologique des personnes impliquées dans les questions environnementales dans la municipalité de Lavras.
