مريم ميرزاخاني، عالمة رياضيات مُسلمة وُلدت يوم الخميس 5 مايو 1977م بِــ طهران (الجمهورية الإسلامية الإيرانية). كانت نجمة شابَّـة لامعة، مشهورة متخصصة في هندسة الأشكال غير الاعتيادية (و هو مجالها المُفضَّل) و عالمة رياضيات من الطِّراز الأوَّل، تتمتع بِصفاتٍ إنسانية عظيمة و تواضع و فضول علمي كبير و موهبة متميزة.كانت مريم ميرزاخاني امرأة مذهــلة إذْ تَـفَـوّقَتْ بِـفضْـل معرفـتها التامة بمجموعة واسعة من التقنيات الرياضياتية، و جمعها بين القــدرات التقنية و الثقافات الرياضياتية المتباينة (و هذا الجمع هو نادرًا ما يتحقّق لدى شخص ما). نالت ميدالية 'فيلدز' يوم الأربعاء 13 أغسطس 2014م في اليوم الافتتاحي للمؤتمر الدولي لعلماء الرياضيات المنعــقـد بـ سيول (كوريا الجنوبية).توفيت مريم ميرزاخاني (عن عُـمر ناهــز الــ 40 عامًا) يوم الجمعة 14 يوليو 2017م بِـمستشفى ستانفورد الكائن بمنطقة ستانفورد (كاليفورنيا).بعـــد وفـــاتها، أشاد رئيس جمهورية إيران الإسلامية (بلدها الأصلي) و مســؤولون آخرون و سياسيون و وسائل الإعلام بِـذكراها. نشرت أغلب الصحف الإيرانية صور ميرزاخاني، تكريماً لذكرى عالمة الرياضيات التي توفيت بسرطان الثدي النقيلي الذي كانت تعاني منه لمدة أربع سنوات، تاركةً ابنتها الصغيرة أناهـيتا فوندراكوفا يتيمة.هذا الكتاب يكرِّم و يُــشيد بـمآثر مريم ميرزاخاني بعد أكثر من ثماني سنوات من وفاتها.
