Die Fertigungsindustrie als wichtiger Teil der europäischen und schwedischen Wirtschaft steht angesichts des wachsenden globalen Wettbewerbs vor vielen Herausforderungen. Eine dieser Herausforderungen ist der Wandel von einer kostenorientierten zu einer wertorientierten Ausrichtung. Um dies zu erreichen, müssen produzierende Unternehmen ihre Produktion und Prozesse verbessern; diese Verbesserungen können schrittweise (Kaizen) oder radikal (Kaikaku) erfolgen. Dieses Manuskript wurde 2012 verfasst und untersucht das Obeya-Konzept als Hilfsmittel für die Entwicklung von Produktionssystemen für schrittweise und radikale Veränderungen. Das Obeya-Konzept stammt aus dem Toyota-Produktionssystem und beinhaltet einen großen Besprechungsraum, der die Entwicklung von Projekten durch die Visualisierung von Daten, die Kommunikation und die Einbindung des Projektteams erleichtert. Vier schwedische Unternehmen, die Lean Manufacturing praktizieren, wurden untersucht, und die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Anwendung von Obeya große Chancen für die Verbesserung innovativer Produktionsentwicklungsprojekte bietet.
