The University United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kansas, was founded in 1919. This history was prepared for its ninetieth anniversary, with information drawn from handwritten records of baptisms, marriages, deaths, memberships, and ministers for the years 1919 through 2008 and well into 2009. Lavone Johnson Anglen has written this book based on two old record books belonging to the church. The seed for this project was planted while attempting to find information on an ancestor to submit to a genealogy organization for a person in New York State. She could not find the wedding, baptism, or death information for this relative, which led her to believe she must do something to preserve the genealogical information about the 1,494 members of this church. Without a published record, the information could be lost someday. The records herein contain up to four generations of some families attending this church. Some members lived in Wyandotte and Johnson Counties in Kansas. Others lived in Platte, Jackson, and Clay Counties in Missouri. Information relating to the history of Kansas City University and University Church was extracted primarily from 'History, University United Methodist Church,' which was published in 1994 in the program for the 75th Anniversary Celebration of University United Methodist Church.
