Lo scopo di questo studio era quello di esaminare le relazioni di mentoring e le capacità di leadership degli assistenti residenti (RA). Inoltre, sono stati studiati il tipo di mentore degli RA e la corrispondenza di genere e razziale delle coppie mentore-allievo. Questo studio fornisce informazioni sul profilo degli assistenti residenti, nonché risultati relativi ai risultati del mentoring sui costrutti del Modello di Cambiamento Sociale di leadership socialmente responsabile ed efficacia della leadership. Ho utilizzato i dati del Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership 2009. È stato analizzato un campione di 6.006 assistenti residenti (RA) utilizzando una versione adattata del modello di impatto universitario Inputs-Environments-Outcomes (I-E-O) di Astin (1991, 1993) come quadro concettuale e il Modello di cambiamento sociale della leadership come quadro teorico. Per analizzare i dati sulla capacità di leadership e sui risultati del mentoring (sviluppo personale e empowerment della leadership) sono stati utilizzati test t su campioni indipendenti, analisi della varianza e regressione. I risultati relativi alla capacità di leadership hanno suggerito che un RA con un mentore dimostra una capacità di leadership significativamente più elevata rispetto a un RA senza mentore. Il tipo di mentore non è un fattore predittivo della leadership socialmente responsabile; affari studenteschi.
