L’aritmia cardiaca, nota anche come disritmia cardiaca o battito cardiaco irregolare, è un gruppo di condizioni in cui il battito cardiaco è irregolare, troppo veloce o troppo lento. Un battito cardiaco troppo veloce - superiore a 100 battiti al minuto negli adulti - è chiamato tachicardia e un battito cardiaco troppo lento - inferiore a 60 battiti al minuto - è chiamato bradicardia Molti tipi di aritmia non presentano sintomi. Quando i sintomi sono presenti, possono includere palpitazioni o la sensazione di una pausa tra i battiti cardiaci. Più seriamente, possono verificarsi giramenti di testa, svenimenti, mancanza di respiro o dolore al petto. Sebbene la maggior parte dei tipi di aritmia non sia grave, alcuni predispongono a complicazioni come l’ictus o l’insufficienza cardiaca. Altri possono provocare un arresto cardiaco. Il ritmo del cuore è controllato da segnali elettrici. Un’aritmia è un’anomalia del ritmo del cuore. Può battere troppo lentamente, troppo velocemente o in modo irregolare. Il metodo di gestione del ritmo cardiaco dipende innanzitutto dal fatto che la persona colpita sia stabile o instabile.
