John Charles Ryle (1816-1900), fue un pastor evangélico anglicano en Liverpool, Inglaterra. Escribió tres obras principales: La Santidad; Religión Practica, y Grandes Líderes del Siglo XVIII. Su tercera obra, y la de mayor calibre histórico, nunca había sido traducida al español hasta ahora. Esta obra no es solamente un compendio histórico de los avivamientos que tuvieron lugar en el siglo XVIII a través de la predicación de hombres como George Whitefield, John Wesley y Daniel Rowlands; y que fueron cruciales en la formación de la Iglesia Evangélica Moderna; sino que también con la sencillez y claridad que le caracterizan, Ryle traza importantes aplicaciones pastorales y para la predicación.
